Tomo Choco Making/

Yesterday was a national holiday in Japan, and my daughter made three different types of chocolate sweet. I was a very capable assistant.

The 13 x 18 cm vat and the rubber spatula, both bought at a 100-yen shop, are new additions to the kitchen.

She prepared 18 of such bags in total
all of which will be given to her female (not male) friends. My daughter is not alone; most of her friends do the same thing around this time of year.

To ensure that she would succeed in making tomo choco, I bought this high-performance kitchen scale.
Capable of measurement in 0.1 g units! Very impressive!

Aww, so cute! Did you get to try some, as a reward for assisting? =D

Tea Apprentice: Unfortunately, there was hardly any left for the family. That was OK with me, because I had to lick the chocolate that stuck to the spatula, mixing bowl, and so on.

Tomo choco is really something totally and unique japanese. Any giri choco for brother and father I wonder?

Kiki: My son got some of the choco sweets from his sister, so he has to give her some sweet in return on White Day (March 14). I think I'll have to do the same.

I'm impressed with the kitchen scales, too. I am a real bean counter (and thus Ben, my husband, makes fun of me often) when it comes to weighing things for cooking or baking. But usually +/- 1 gram is good enough for me. (I've never tried to make chocolates myself.)
Just recently, we have bought new kitchen scales because the old ones switched themselves off too soon (right in the middle of weighing flour, vegetables, ...).

Katrin: I almost settled on a cheaper model (around 1000 yen), which can measure up to 1 kg in gram units, but I changed my mind and ordered this model (around 2300 yen), which can measure up to 3 kg and can also measure water and milk in millimeters. I think I have made a right decision. Maybe I should start baking bread or something.

Hiroyuki: One of my next projects is baking matcha rolls (which are not available in or around Zurich, not even at the Japanese bakery in one of the surrounding towns). I'll post about it when I do.

Nippon Nin:
