Can't see the ocean for the whales/鯨を見て海を見ず(細部にとらわれて全体を見ない)

If someone is so preoccupied with a particular subject of interest that they fail to see the whole situation, you could say that they can't see the forest for the trees.
誰かが或る特定の事柄に気を取られ、全体を見ることができない場合、英語では、その人は"can't see the forest for the trees"(木を見て森を見ず)と表現することができます。

I would say that some anti-whaling countries, groups, and individuals can't see the ocean for the whales.

To be continued.

First of all, whales are intelligent. Yes, they sure are, and so are all other animals and plants! Without some sort of intelligence, no creatures could live. It's almost blasphemous to nature to single out whales for protection because of their intelligence. I can't find it in my heart to rank animals and plants according to intelligence.

To be continued.

Secondly, whales, which are positioned high in the food chain, must be managed in an appropriate manner. I'm no expert on this subject, so let me just provide links to these YouTube videos (English, French, and Japanese versions of the same video):
You're still against eating whale?
Etes-vous toujours opposés à la consommation de viande de baleine ?

Thirdly, it's against humanity to be intolerant of the traditions of other countries/areas, be culturally imperialistic, and attack them verbally and/or physically.

Finally, Japan has a lot to offer about whales and whaling. I'm going to talk more about whales and whaling in my blog.

End of post

All creatures on our planet are intelligent. Some are more...!! Look at Dolphins. They are hunted in Denmark just like Whales. It is ongoing for many many years and it is part of their tradition. Nothing wrong in hunting whales and eating its meat. Human beings are surviving on different species of birds and animals. I think Whales are living in different parts of the ocean worldwide and they are not hunted everywhere like in Japan or some few other places. So there is no question of Whales becoming extinct.

seeandoh: Thank you for your comment! I really didn't expect to get any comments except some emotional, irrational, and repugnant comments from anti-whaling groups and individuals!
