It was not me who made that nigiri, and it wasn't me who ordered it. A friend ordered it at a kaiten zushi restaurant. When I saw it, I laughed and remarked that the tonkatsu was as thick as the shari (vinegared rice), and she told me that she couldn't eat the neta and the shari at the same time. She had the neta first and then the shari. Was it good? I don't know. She said it was good.
Seems like a bit of a mouthful? Is that mayonnaise on top?
ReplyDeleteChee Fai: Yes, just a small piece of tonkatsu. Mayonnaise and tonkatsu sauce on top.
ReplyDeleteI will try to take photos of other toppings the next time I go to the kaiten zushi (conveyor-belt sushi) restaurant.
Tonkatsu Nigiri sounds very innovative!
ReplyDeleteWas this really served at a restaurant? Funny. I'm guessing that the rice seasoning was a little lost in this. :)
ReplyDeleteHiroyuki,
ReplyDeleteGood to see you are still experimenting after all this time!
Like tiny bite sized katsudon.

Great idea. Love tonkatsu and this looks like a great snack.
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy to me! Was it?

Kappa! The tonkatsu nigiri was MUCH better than the cream stew gunkan-maki they had this spring.
ReplyDeleteZenichi: YES! We went to Kappa Zushi. Cream stew gunkan-maki? Kappa is really creative and innovative!
