Osen is another TV drama worthy of special mention here. The beauty of the thatched roof house is beyond description, so are many of the individual dishes served at the restaurant.
おせんもまた、特筆すべきテレビドラマです。茅葺屋根の家、また出されるそれぞれの料理の美しさは言葉では表現できません。

I loved watching Osen, that episode with sukiyaki and chawanmushi was made me feel so hungry.
ReplyDeleteKuitan was funny too.. it was weird watching Higashiyama acting in such a silly role after seeing him only in the Chef (from years ago!) - that ramen episode was evil - i craved ramen for a long while!
Anonymous: Thanks for your comment: All the episodes make me hungry, especially episode 8, in which Osen makes kotokoto meshi from piping hot rice!
ReplyDeleteI had a lot of free time this weekend, so after one Kuitan episode I watched two episodes of Osen. Osen is a revelation. I am already addicted! It is a dream film for someone discovering Japanese food and cooking art. And the heroine is extraordinary! (and she likes drinking... although not shochu I think, but I understand her appreciation of good alcohol!) Thank you for mentioning Osen!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, do you happen to remember the quick miso soup without dashi (2nd episode)? I was wondering what kind of onion is grated to the soup (the translation is vague)? I tried to look for a recipe on internet but haven't found anything similar.
(I am impatient to learn what kotokoto meshi is.)
Sissi: Negi, to be more precice naga negi 長ねぎ. I wonder if you can find naga negi in your country.
ReplyDeleteNaga negi is popular in the Kanto area of Japan, while ao negi (green onion) is popular in Kansai.
Hiroyuki, thank you for this answer. I have just checked the photos of naga negi. Apparently we don't have it here, but maybe I could play with a thicker young onion white part or a young leek's white part... I'll make experiments.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if this is not a weed, I have my first mitsuba sprouting! (I wonder why only one... I have put at least ten). I am very excited.
Sissi: Good for you! Keep the soil moist!
