I have heard so much about the Iron Chef but never watched any fragment even...
ReplyDeleteSadly I did not see any japanese episodes of the former iron chef series. I did see a few english iron chefs episodes and american. That reminds me: do you have a similiar show in Japan as "come dine with me". Very amusing cooking show http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_Dine_with_Me
ReplyDeleteOriginated in the UK and we did exactly the same in Germany, airing since 2006 - every weekday. The frist 3 years I watched it with delight but it was getting old, best are (or were) the discussions at the internet forums after the shows.
Sissi and Kiki: You can watch the original Iron Chef series on YouTube any time!
ReplyDeleteKiki, I didn't know anything about the show. No, there are no similar shows in Japan. I don't know why. Watching amateur chefs hosting a dinner party should be fun.
Hiroyuki-san, this is fantastic news! I enjoy watching the Japanese version of Iron Chef. The theme ingredients are always quite interesting and exotic.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing exists on French tv, but it's very annoying: the voice "commenting" everything is irritating and the people who invite themselves are 90% of the time ridiculous and they are also really vicious when talking about others' dinners. No one practically ever gives the maximum note. There is also a stupid rule that they have to find a "game" or "pass-time" to entertain the diners. This is the worst part...
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's more natural and interesting in UK or Germany?
They have also made a similar program in Switzerland, but taking place in small villages. It seems more natural, people seem kinder and more honest.
(Sorry, I should have said at the beginning that I talk about "Dine With Me")
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: I only hope that the second series will be as intriguing as the first!
ReplyDeleteSissi: I think I get the picture. The Swiss version sounds great!
Iron Chef was one of the great shows of all time. I sometimes watch old episodes just to improve my mood.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the original Iron Chef set a standard that no one has again reached. The first American version (with William Shatner) might be the worst TV show ever. The other, later, American version was really very interesting, but never as good as the Japanese original.
I share with you, Hiroyuki, the hope that the new version will be great.
Thanks for the news.
Ooh! The original Japanese Iron Chef was one of my favourite shows! Who is in the cast, and are any of the original members back?
ReplyDeleteYSC: Sorry, I can't answer your questions until I watch the first episode! The official website provides no details yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about the news when I read about it some time ago on some website! They're one of my fav cooking shows ever! Would really love to see Masaharu Morimoto, Rokusaburo Michiba, Hiroyuki Sakai and Chen Kenichi once again.
ReplyDeleteHoping that someone will upload the new series into Youtube soon. :D
I watched the show last night, and my first general impression was that I was slightly disappointed. I think I'll provide some more details in a day or two.
ReplyDeleteFor now, I'd like to tell you that none of the four iron chefs appear in the show as such. Iron Chef now has completely new iron chefs.
