Kan ou kai is another term for hanami (cherry blossom viewing), and it sounds a bit high-sounding (at least for me).
Kan = View
Ou = Sakura or cherry
Kai = Meeting or party
From April 25 through May 6 this year, a kan-ou-kai is held in Zenibuchi Koen (Park) in Minami-Uonuma city. A kan-ou-kai is held in this park every year around this time of year, but this particular year, some of the cherry trees are illuminated at night (apparently to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the city).
Today was the perfect day for hanami, so I went to the park by bicycle to do some hanami.
It was about 15-minute ride. On my way, I saw just a lot of cherry trees in full bloom. This photo shows just some examples.
We are almost there.
Can you tell what these mounds are made of?

Snow. This site must be a snow dumping site.
Now, you can see the signboard of the park.
Here are some of the photo that I took in the park, with little or no text.

I bought one bowl of mushroom soup (300 yen).

Overpriced...
I had a lot of talk with acquainances there, and I left the park a little over two o'clock in the afternoon. On my way back home, I did some hanami, too.
I truly enjoyed hanami today!
What a beautiful day! This town is very young, if it is only 10 years old...
ReplyDeleteTea Apprentice: Yes, it's young. There used to be three towns; they are now one city. That's just one example of what we call the "Great Merger of the Heisei Period".
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun day! :)
ReplyDeleteYangsze: Yes, it was fun! We must enjoy hamami while the cherries are in full bloom!
