Time flies! One year has passed since the iyakaya Horyo opened near my house, as I described here.
時が経つのは早いもので、家の近くに居酒屋「豊漁」がオープン(ここ参照)してからもう一年経ちました。

It is nice to have such a shop near by.
ReplyDeleteKiki: Yes, as I said before, having an izakaya in the walking distance is a big plus.
ReplyDeleteYou are really lucky to have izakaya so close! (In general the Japanese are lucky to have izakayas. It's such a great concept!). Instead of the hundredth sushi restaurant in my small city, they could open one izakaya at last...
ReplyDeleteI have just been to London (the last part of my European trips this year) and I must say that British pubs become very close to izakaya in both quality, price, atmosphere and role. People come sometimes just for a drink, sometimes drink and snacks and sometimes for a meal. I have had wonderful, deliciously presented but cheap lunches with a good glass of ale (my favourite kind of beer) and one excellent dinner in a very "gastronomic" pub.
Here pubs still serve fast food such as frozen supermarket hamburgers and club sandwiches...
Sissi: I envy you for having the time and money (laugh) to travel to different places for such a long time!
ReplyDeleteSo, the pubs in England (UK?) are changing? That's good news for every traveler to England!
It was for business, so we had to travel (and take time and invest money). If I had more money I would have stayed in all these places at least one week, not two days...
ReplyDeleteOf course I don't complain. It's better than nothing and very interesting of course.
And of course it's not expensive to travel in Europe. By car (if there are more people) or by plane...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, when my husband travelled once to Canada for business I wasn't able to come... too expensive for such a quick period he was able to stay there.
Hiroyuki it is true: Due to the low prices for flights, in europe it is not expensive to travel to London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona - whatever. On my last trip to england I paid 79 Euros for the flight (two way ticket)! I would always recommend foreign visitors to look out for the cheap inner european flights (have to be booked some time in advance) and travel from one capital to the next. If you don't need too much comfort it is always a good idea to stay in hostels. I think it is much better, more fun and way cheaper than booking a guided tour.
ReplyDelete79 euros? That's really attractive!
ReplyDeleteKiki, a guided tour is a nightmare! When I see people guided by someone in a group, I always think how much they miss... and how much they'll understand from a country...
ReplyDeleteNow even the "standard" airlines have very interesting prices for short stay trips: you can take only cabin luggage (it's called "economy light")and it's much cheaper than normal tickets (and sometimes even cheaper than low-cost companies). Very practical if you go for a weekend. My friend has recently bought such a ticket one day before for 120 euros (and by a "standard" company, not low-cost!).
Sissi: Guided tours are something I have to do once a year because my mother enjoys them a lot and she wants to travel with me (oh god next year she wants to go to Island, she send me the tour dates already - I am so not going). I know what you mean and I hate it too. I really prefer to travel on my own while planning my own tours (though I like to follow the Lonely planet recommendations).
