Figs Simmered with Sugar/いちじくの砂糖煮

Yesterday, I received about 30 figs from my father. I checked them all and separated matured ones from overly matured ones, and put them in separate Tupperware containers.
Top: Overly matured ones
Bottom: Matured ones
I added about 15-20% sugar to each container, and microwaved the containers for a total of 9 and 12 minutes, respectively.
それぞれの容器に砂糖を15~20%程度入れ、それぞれ、合計9、12分、電子レンジで加熱しました。

I love dried figs very much and they cost a bomb here. I had never tried the fresh ones yet. They must be lovely.

Sounds lovely! Another delicious way to eat figs is to cut each one in half lengthwise, then broil in an oven for about 20 minutes. Drizzle a little balsamic vinegar and honey on top, with crumbled goat cheese - makes a pretty and tasty appetizer :)

Yangsze: Thanks for your suggestion! But I need an oven to try your recipe!

Those look delicious! I love figs. I enjoy eating them fresh. As others mentioned, they are popular here dried, and some people also make fig jam, which can be eaten as an appetizer with cheese and crackers (or small pieces of toasted baguette, perhaps). Figs are also cooked into a filling for cakes and cookies. A popular cookie here in the United States is Fig Newtons, which has a fig filling, although they are an older cookie and I think they are not as popular as they once were. I think they're very nice, though. These days, it seems most people want chocolate cookies!

Good luck with your cooking projects!

Take care,
Erin from California
