I was intrigued by the tofu. It looked like Japanese atsu age (deep-fried thick tofu, as opposed to abura age). I asked, "Is it fried?" They replied, "Cooked with Chinese herbs." I decided to try the tofu.
Just as I had imagined, it was like atsu age.

I liked the flan very much!

But somen is wheat noodles, not rice noodles. I asked them about this, and they said it was a mistake.
Anyway, it look delicious. I ordered one.
It was good! What is this mysterious thing? They said it was coconut milk, and it was free! I had two pieces!

I wished I could have tried all the foods served at all the twelve booths run by IUJ students.

In the gym, performances started at 2:30.

I wanted to see all the performances, but I had to leave the gym to take the 16:30 free bus.
At the kiosk in Urasa Station, I bought Echigo Beer, Japan's first ji-biiru (local beer).

I'm sure many of you (especially men) would like to see Thai beauties again.
I bought four anbo in the booth run by Uonuma Rakuichi Rakuza. I don't know anything about this group (corporation?), but they sold foods at reasonable prices (110 yen for one anbo).

All in all, a great event in my small city.
This is my third visit to this festival. My second visit was described here.

This looks like it was a great small festival! If you ever make your way to the United States, please make it a point to visit Austin, Texas! I think that since you're so willing to attempt new foods, you'd really like what the city has to offer!

Ruminating Roy: Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, yes, I'm willing to swear off soy sauce and mirin and indulge in exotic flavors If I live overseas!

Hiriyuki-san - luckily you can find soy sauce and mirin all over now! This looks like a wonderful experience. The 'fried rice' at the Afghanistan table was probably biriyani http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biryani

It's really tasty!

muskratbyte: Thanks for the link! I hope they serve the same or similar dish at the next festival!
