Kyarabuki/伽羅蕗(きゃらぶき)

Yesterday, I got some kyarabuki from a neighbor, and I'd like to share a photo. Kyarabuki is butterbur (fuki) stems simmered with seasonings such as sake, soy sauce, and sugar. Kyara comes from kyara (aloeswood), a type of fragrant wood, because of the resemblance of kyarabuki to kyara in color.
昨日、近所の人からきゃらぶきを頂いたので、写真を載せたいと思います。きゃらぶきとは、酒、しょう油、砂糖などの調味料で煮た蕗(ふき)の茎のことです。きゃら(伽羅)とは香木の一種、伽羅から来ています。きゃらぶきの色が伽羅に似ているからです。

pink: Like other sansai, fuki is bitter, and should be an acquired taste for many.
