Chateau Shiozawa Ski Carnival/

Just wanted to post some photos of the 49th Chateau Shiozawa Ski Carnival, held today, March 5. Chateau Shiozawa is a small ski resort located in Minami-Uonuma city. It's ideal for families with small children.

Tonjiru (pork soup) was offered free of charge.

I had two bowls! You'd expect to pay 200 yen per bowl.

The local sake brand, Kakurei, was also offered free of charge. Really, really generous indeed!

I just don't remember how many cups I had. Probably four.
Yakisoba (fried noodles) was only 100 yen.
My nephew allowed me to take a photo of his yakisoba.

Amazake was also offered free of charge.
My cup happened to be what remained at the bottom of the large pot, and it was cameralized! Very tasty.
If I remember correctly, cotton candy was also offered free of charge.
Franfurters were offered for 100 yen each, but they were sold out before I could get one.

Unfortunately, I got none at the lottery.

The "taimatsu kasso" (lit. torchlight gliding) was performed.
Tens of people skiing down the slope, each one holding a torchlight in their hand.

I took several photos and even some videos, but I was unable to get a good shot.

The carnival ended with fireworks.
My wife is from the area where Chateau Shiozawa is located.

That looks like a wonderful festival, and the food looks so delicious! I really enjoy yakisoba, but I haven't had tonjiru yet. I want to try it. Thank you for sharing your photos!

Take care,
Erin from California

ErinBear: Nothing like nice and hot tonjiru (and local sake) on a cold night like this!
I hope you try tonjiru some day!
