New Life, New Kitchen for My Son/息子の新たな人生、新たなキッチン

On March 26, my son moved into his apartment in Tokyo. My son and I took an early Shinkansen train on that day, and got almost everything ready in just two days.
3月26日、息子は東京にあるアパートに引っ越しました。その日は、息子と私は早い新幹線に乗り、二日間でほぼ全て準備しました。

Along a street near JR Otsuka Station, the cherry blossoms were almost in full bloom.
JR大塚駅近くの通りでは、桜がほぼ満開でした。

息子のアパートのキッチン:
My wife and I had taught him basic cooking techniques earlier, and now he can wash rice, make simple miso soup with tofu and wakame seaweed, make fried eggs and even atsuyaki tamago (thick rolled omelette).
私と妻とで、息子に基本的な料理法を教えていたので、今では、米を研ぎ、豆腐とワカメの簡単な味噌汁を作り、目玉焼き、それに厚焼き卵も作れます。

It is a new chapter for everyone indeed. When my kids moved away to school I was happy for them but at the same time I was missing them, the empty nester syndrome! Living on their own will be a great experience for the kids to learn to be independence and also build confidence. You will quickly notice how much they grow up just from being away from home. You son can always refer to your blog for cooking ideas!

okasan: Well, I don't think I'm going to miss my son as much as you did, but I'm sure he's going to give me lots of headaches, financially!

Thanks for your suggestion, but I already gave him a 5 kg bag of Koshiibuki コシイブキ rice when he moved in, and we checked many of the supermarkets around the area, and found that Koshiibuki rice was available at resonable prices at some of them.

Congratulations to his son on his new apartment, and on starting college! I hope it will go well for him. It is a big change for all of you. Sending good wishes to your family.

The cherry blossoms were so pretty. They are blooming here, too!

Thinking of you,

This morning, my wife took an early Shinkansen to attend the entrance ceremony for the university. I hope she takes good care of my son, who seems not yet used to his new life in Tokyo.
